FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
The Squishy Goose is located in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada at 9 Elgin Street East, Unit 6E. At the corner of Elgin St and Division St, we are in the same large L-shaped plaza as LightHouse Dental and Watton Employment Services, but we are around the back! Facing south, the easternmost unit right on the southeast side of the building, alongside the woods/greenspace.
Is your facility accessible?

YES, our facility is fully accessible. Equipped with a hydraulic lift at the main entrance, meeting every current government standard, and designed with all aspects of safety, comfort and inclusivity in mind for each member of your family.

What ages of children do you accommodate?

We truly have something for guests of any age, from 0-99+! We provide places to safely allow infants to explore or rest, a toddler area specially equipped for crawlers and early learners, and a large intricate play structure designed for kids of all ages to run, climb and play!

We also currently have specialized programing specifically for our Pre-K friends (ages 2-4), called Little Goslings. This drop-off program provides children with two and a half hours of supervised, structured classes. Activities focus on developing and strengthening fine motor skills, gross motor skills, and emotional intelligence in preparation for kindergarten.

How much does it cost to bring my infant? What if they are accompanying an older sibling?

When visiting on their own, 0-2 year olds pay $9 for drop-in play, however infants under 12 months old are FREE when accompanying an older sibling! But we do need to ensure every visitor has a waiver on file –  due to liability and capacity limits, every person must be accounted for who enters the facility, and “a person’s a person, no matter how small” (thanks Dr. Suess!)

And remember, every paying child allows for 1 free adult admission.

Do adults have to pay if they’re not using the playground?

Yes, due to liability and capacity limits, each person who enters the facility must be accounted for, regardless of what activity they partake in while here. If you are 18 years of age or older and not paired with a paying child, your individual admission is $9. However, we do include free admission for 1 adult for each paying child, and grandparents are free for drop-in play visits!

What type of food and drinks can I expect at the coffee/snack bar?

At The Squishy Goose, we have a wide variety of kid-approved, grab-and-go, school-safe snacks. We also offer fresh whole fruit, as well as a selection of fresh baked goods delivered from Millstone bakery in Cobourg. In-house, we brew fresh coffee and tea courtesy of Just Brew It Cobourg, as well as many juice, pop, and other cold beverage options.

Are you an allergen-safe facility?

Although we try to ensure that every snack we serve is tree nut-free, we cannot guarantee this standard. Every effort is made on our part to keep common allergens off our menu, and all of our pre-packaged goods are clearly labelled with their ingredient lists. However, our facility is open to the public and we cannot always control what comes into the building.

Can I bring in outside food and drinks during drop-in play?

We prefer you come with as little as possible, and if you require food or drink to select from our approved options that we offer in-house. This ensures that we can control allergens, cleanliness, and the comfort of all our guests. However, you are permitted to bring in outside food and drinks when needed.

What type of entertainment and play equipment do you have?

Together with Orca Coast Playgrounds out of B.C., The Squishy Goose has designed a custom made, 300 square foot, a 3-story soft-sided play structure that offers a wide range of gross motor activities to navigate, including; climbing, rolling, crawling, swinging, running, balancing, sliding, etc.

In the toddler area, we have a more age-appropriate soft-sided “climb and slide” structure also designed by Orca Coast, and a solid wood 3-piece Pikler Triangle Gym with a slide and arch. On top of that, there are also lots of opportunities for sensory stimulation from our multi-paneled sensory board wall, all placed among soft places to explore, stretch out, and observe.

What we do not have are trampolines, ball pits, or electronic screen-based activities…and this is on purpose! The Squishy Goose made the choice early on to focus only on physical, tactile play that was safe and appropriate at every age. By doing these few things right, we believe we can offer you the best experience for you and your family to spend time together free from the unnecessary stress of potentially dangerous or unsanitary play.

Can I drop off my child, or do I need to stay and supervise them?

You are required to supervise your children at all times while at The Squishy Goose. Our space is not a licensed childcare facility, and our staff is not trained or liable in that way. Adults over the age of 18 must be present at all times, and responsible for the safety and behaviour of the children within their care.

We do currently offer a drop-off program available called Little Goslings which allows for two and a half hours of supervised, structured classes for pre-school aged children (ages 2 – 4).

Can I pay for admission online?

If you are visiting us for drop-in play you cannot purchase admission online ahead of your arrival. Drop-in play is managed on a first-come, first-served basis, so you’ll need to pay in person when you arrive at the playground.

What is your cleaning routine?

As young parents, we loved visiting indoor playgrounds and family entertainment centres…but always wondered what their cleaning procedures were, and how much of a risk we were taking having our little ones spend time there.

When we started imagining what OUR indoor playground would look like, safe ways to disinfect were always at the top of our priority list. After exhaustive research and a bit of trial and error, we found just the right solution for us. We use a variety of tools to sanitize multiple times per day with VitalOxide and Hypochlorous solutions to mitigate any harmful bacteria and viruses that may find their way into our facility.

If you have any questions or concerns about how we keep our space clean for you and your family, please reach out – we’d be happy to chat with you more about it! Our first priority has, is, and will always be the health and well-being of everyone who visits The Squishy Goose. Our children play here too…and our standards for them are the same for your family.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We happily accept debit, Apple Pay, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and cash.

Do I have to wear socks?

YES! It’s socks for everyone while at The Squishy Goose, young and old, playing or lounging. All footwear must be left at the front entrance, and only socks are permitted past that point. If you do not have socks with you when you arrive, no worries – we sell both child and adult sizes for a nominal fee. Thank you for helping to keep our facility clean & safe for everyone!

When booking a party, does the guest count include everyone attending, or only the kids?

Your guest count for any event booking includes EVERYONE, children and adults. We must account for every invited guest, no matter their age. This means your total guest count cannot exceed 25 people (not just kids!) if booking the party room, or 45 people (not just kids!) if booking the full facility.

Do I need to pre-book a time slot to visit?

No, not at all! We are drop-in play only, no pre-booking is necessary to visit the playground. All guests are accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis, and you are welcome to stay as long you like – there is no minimum or maximum amount of time attached to your admission.
